Virtus et Fidelitas
Originating from medieval Sicily, the Brancatos have their first recorded mentions in 1471, when Giovanni Brancato received the feud "delle Viole" for service rendered to the Norman court. The surname, probably derived from the Latin word blancus (white), may be linked to the white landscapes of the Sicilian fields where the family settled.
In the 16th century, thanks to the growing mercantile influence of cities like Palermo and Messina, several branches of the family expanded their political and economic ties, marrying local nobles and acquiring lands in southern Italy.
During the great migratory waves of the 19th and 20th centuries, many Brancatos departed in search of new opportunities, settling in Brazil, the United States, and Argentina. There they kept alive cultural and gastronomic traditions, founding small Italian colonies and contributing to the development of their communities.
Today, the descendants of the Brancatos operate in various sectors — from law and medicine to commerce and the arts — united by pride in their roots and devotion to the values of courage, loyalty, and family.
